Adding a parent role to your Admin/Coach account
This guide walks you through adding a parent role to your existing Admin/Coach account on SportCerts — for coaches whose own children play on the platform.
Who this is for
Admin/Coaches who also have a child (or children) playing in SportCerts events. Instead of creating a separate parent account, you can add a parent role to your existing coach account so everything is under one login.
Why use one account instead of two
If you have an Admin/Coach account and your child also needs to be on SportCerts, don't create a separate parent account. One account with both roles gives you:
One login for everything
One dashboard that lets you switch between coach view and parent view
No duplicate accounts for SportCerts to manage
Cleaner billing — your child's verification fee is on the same account as your coaching activity
Your coach role and parent role are separate but live under the same login. You can switch between them anytime from the user menu.
Before you start
You'll need:
Your SportCerts login (existing Admin/Coach account)
About 5 minutes for parent onboarding
For each child: name, date of birth, identity document, headshot, and a payment method for the $15/year verification fee
For full detail on the parent onboarding flow, see the parent help center article on adding a child to your account.
Steps
Step 1 — Add the parent role
Log in at sportcerts.com.
Click your name or photo in the top right corner.
Choose Add Another Role.
Select Parent.
Step 2 — Complete parent onboarding
You'll be walked through the parent setup flow:
Sign the parent waiver. This is separate from the Admin/Coach Code of Conduct — every parent signs it once.
Add your first child. Enter their name, date of birth, and other basic info.
Upload an identity document for the child (birth certificate, passport, etc.).
Upload a headshot for the child.
Pay the $15 verification fee.
Once complete, your child appears on your parent dashboard, and your account now has both Admin/Coach and Parent roles.
Step 3 — Switch between roles
After adding the parent role:
Click your name or photo in the top right corner.
You'll see options to switch between Parent view and Admin/Coach view.
Pick whichever role you want to use.
The dashboard updates to match. Switching is instant — no logout required.
Notes
Your name and headshot are shared across both roles. When you upload a coach headshot, that's what appears on your coach card. Your child's headshot is separate (uploaded by you in your parent role).
Each child still requires their own $15/year verification fee. Having a coach role doesn't waive the parent verification fee.
Your coaching activity is independent of your parenting activity. Your child can be on a team you don't coach, and vice versa.
You can add multiple children under your parent role, just like any parent account.
Troubleshooting
I don't see the Add Another Role option. Refresh the page or log out and back in. If the option still isn't there, contact support — there may be an account state issue.
I added the parent role but my dashboard still shows the coach view only. Use the role switcher in the top right corner. Sometimes the dashboard defaults to whichever role you used most recently.
I tried to add my child but got a "duplicate" warning. SportCerts checks for duplicates to prevent accidentally adding the same child twice. If your child already has a record (for example, the other parent already added them), you'll need to be added as a co-parent instead. See the parent help center article on adding a co-parent.
I want to remove the parent role from my account. Contact support. Removing a role isn't currently self-serve, especially if you have children attached to the parent role.
My child is on a team I coach. How does that work? Add your child through your parent role like any other parent. Then, in your coach role, your child should appear on the team's roster (either through the invite link or by searching for the team during signup). The platform treats your child like any other player on the roster.
FAQ
Can I be a coach and a parent on the same team? Yes. Many coaches have their own kids on the team they coach. Add the child through your parent role, get them added to the roster, and continue coaching.
Can I have a parent role without a coach role? Yes — most parents don't coach. This article is specifically for adding a parent role to an existing coach account. If you want only a parent account, just sign up as a parent from the start.
Will my child's verification fee be billed to my coach account or my parent account? The $15/year verification fee is per-child, billed to the parent (you), regardless of whether you also coach. Same payment, same account, same flow as any parent.
Can my coach role and parent role have different emails? No. Both roles share the same login, including the same email address.
Will event staff see my coach card or my parent role at events? Event staff use your coach card to confirm you're an authorized coach for the team. Your parent role isn't relevant at check-in (your child is verified independently).
Can I switch back to my coach view if I'm in parent view? Yes, anytime. Use the role switcher in the top right corner.
What happens if my child is on a team I coach AND a different team? Both teams' rosters will show your child. Your coaching role only affects the team you coach — the other team's coach manages their own roster independently.
Can I see both my coach data and my parent data at the same time? The dashboard shows one role at a time, but both sets of data are stored on your single account. Switch between roles to see each side.
